Hyatt can be tough. Hilton is mostly on par with Marriott property wise.
For vacations, I can usually find Hyatts without much difficulty, especially in the "destination" areas.
For work, I usually end up in a Hyatt Place, which while not full service, are in my opinion, better than the comparable Bonvoy properties.
As I lifetime Titanium with Bonvoy, I much prefer my Hyatt Globalist status as I am treated much better
Lifetime bonvoy Ti, but have given Hilton some business in the past few years.
No issues finding either franchise in my US travels. I think it changes a bit internationally.
Would like to accumulate some Hyatt points, but availability can be a challenge.
Quality wise I think Marriott properties are still the most consistent, but there are very good Hilton options out there for sure.
Would Bonvoy still be the best international? Looking for the best options for international stays.
Hilton is currently running a triple points promotion. My current bonvoy promotion is a paltry 2k points after two stays.
Coworker did the math at you get a ~23% points return on average with Hilton vs 8% with Marriott. For that reason alone you should switch. That being said, you are correct that you may have trouble finding Hilton properties in more rural areas.
At least Hilton is consistent—I have no doubt your Hawaii Westin is amazing but I just stayed at an airport Westin that may have well been a Sheraton or worse.
Plus I hate that I almost never get upgraded with Marriott ambassador versus 50% of the time with Hilton diamond. Also hat the the majority of marriotts do not have mobile key and the few that do still require me to check in. With Hilton, I choose my room and skip the front desk every time.
