Agree with K1. DR is great for spending your time at a single resort with great beach, pool with a swim up bar, all-inclusive. Aruba will be great if you want to have a beach, casino, plus a city to wander on foot. Not to mention Dutch pancakes. Oh and flamingos that will eat out of your hand on Renaissance Island.
Neither is bad - just have to decide what kind of 4-day trip you want.
DR for sure. People go missing on couples trips in Aruba
Thanks for the insight. I do plan on using some SPG/Marriott points, so Aruba was a bit higher on my list, but didn't want to be stuck at my hotel the entire time. There's a thin line between relaxing and getting bored sometimes, ha.
K1 Glad to hear... I was eyeing that area!
Thanks, this has been really helpful all. I think Aruba is the way to go!!
Definitely Aruba. We were in Punta Cana for 6 nights at an all inc and never left. Granted we had a 13 month old so in our head thought this was a great idea but wow the food gets old and it can get boring. We live doing excursions (pre-baby). Definitely Aruba.
Aruba has nicer beaches for sure. Local vibe is pretty dead in both but DR has more of the welcoming, latin culture.
Oh come on EY1 don’t be ridiculous. DR is a 3rd world country with all the poverty that comes with it. Oranjestad is perfectly safe to walk around in. If you go DR go the all inclusive route. You don’t really leave the resort anyway unless you go on an excursion. Several Marriott and other big American chain properties are in Aruba OTOH if you want to use points. I’ve been to both recently and they were both great trips. DR has a more Euro vibe since a lot of the visitors and hotels are from there. Aruba has a more South American vibe, understandably if you look on a map
I’m with EY1
I stayed at the Westin in punta cana. Quite boring at times
SM1 the Ren private island was my favorite part of that trip
Aruba was amazing! To get off the resort I’d recommend doing a dune buggy excursion, so much fun and added an exciting element to otherwise relaxing trip. I never felt uncomfortable shopping in the city center either, and I only traveled with my SO
