I resonate with feels more like work than work does! The number of times I have to push myself to do a hobby or something that is supposed to be fun is a lot. For me, it’s more about finding a balance. Sometimes I just want to do nothing, and other times, after sitting down to do something, I’m grateful I did.
My main diversion has always been reading. I've always got some interests I'm pursuing, lately I've been in the late 1700s, thanks to reading Stacy Schiff's bio of Samuel Adams. Besides reading I try to unwind by taking a walk every day. If I get out walking for a half hour it's a good chance to listen to podcasts or music, and that takes my mind off work matters. I don't watch a lot of TV and I've cut back on my subscriptions, but I'll wind up watching a few of the shows people are talking about.
I'm going to have to keep an eye out for that Samuel Adams book. John Adams received quite a bit of coverage a few years back, with the HBO adaptation of his biography.
Right now, I am reading about the 1872 Louisiana Governor election. It's called America's Deadliest Election, by Dana Bash. Quite interesting.
Working out and reading are my go-tos. I try to work out for 45 minutes each day and end every night reading. I don't always feel like doing either, but I'm always so much happier and more relaxed when I do.
