I'm wanting to know what people think is better. Kaiser or ucla health for working as an admin staff. Ucla seems to have good pay from what I see on the job descriptions but kaiser only shows pay grade. Ucla has pension and a raise it seems every year. It’s not voluntarily done by the agencies. When I was a junior I never got overtime. Nobody did.
It has nothing to do with juniors, it just happens to affect mostly juniors. It’s a new labor law, signed by Obama in mid-2016 and took effect in December 2016 just before Trump started.
The new law made it mandatory that anyone that made $47K or under must receive overtime pay, including salaried workers. Before that law was signed, the threshold was $23K which was so low, nobody on salary got overtime. Wish I had that law back when I was a junior pulling 80-90 hour weeks. Glad they finally did the right thing and made it a law. It should be higher than $47K to be honest.
If an agency is not paying out overtime for someone making under $47K, it’s illegal and they should be reported.
Yep you are right. The new thresholds are different per county, looks wildly different all over the state. The $58K threshold in the 5 boroughs will kick in this year.
