Toronto ad fish 🤠 I’ve spent most of my career working as a copywriter in London (6 years here, 2 years Toronto) and the market is pretty different here. I’m planning on moving back home but wondered….how do you find work in Toronto? Agencies barely post openings, is the recruiter scene strong? Is it mostly who you know?
Just 25 days left in my Notice Period. I am holding an offer for 29 fixed, but looking for something better.

If you're super motivated to switch to product, why not jump through those hoops at FB? If you're motivated to make the switch to PM wouldn't it be better to do so in a more familiar environment especially if you prefer the company to GM? Also maybe try and seek out some 20% PM work so you can try before you buy.
Yes, side PM work is not a bad idea either.

Would you really want to move to Detroit?
I’m not loving CA taxes and eventually want to afford more than a tiny house, but I’ve been trying to keep it more about the role and not the location. That’s somewhat secondary, especially now
What kind of associate PM role is it? Is it digital work or for the actual car? Personally, GM is on the outs because of their failure to adapt and go electric.
It’s connected vehicles, so definitely hybrid hardware, software. If it was Ford or FCA it’d be a firm no, will be obsolete soon, but I feel like GM is doing a lot to stay relevant. But if the perception in tech is that they’re irrelevant then maybe it’s a bad move. I want mobility.
If you're really interested in it, and you feel like you've asked around enough at Facebook to feel like it's really not going to pan out there, this might be a good time to consider a move.
I'm curious to know if you took the offer. If you did, then you got a HUGE bonus this year. Gigantic. As for GM and tech -- GM will eventually only have electric vehicles. We are all in with the tech now. We are run like a software company in many ways.
I did! Very glad I made the jump. The bonus made it even better haha
Do you still like working there? Was thinking about applying to a PM role

If you don’t like red tape and broken processes then you probably shouldn’t apply..if you’re at Rocket and like it it’s probably not much of a leg up. I only did it because I wanted the PM role. If you’re trying to pivot into pm, I would recommend a startup. I know a lot of people who have pivoted doing that.
I’d be very hesitant to move out of tech into a hard goods manufacturer... the quality of life benefits in tech (FB being some of the best) are often very hard to attain outside of tech, I’ve found. I wouldn’t be surprised if GM gives 2 weeks PTO after first year😆 jk hopefully not that bad, but I’d definitely research.
Update: I was bored so I researched it. Pretty decent benefits. 3 weeks vacation plus 15 holidays to start. 4 weeks after 3 years. Not FB good but not bad!
