The way I understand is AGI is basically the term used to describe when AI will become smarter than humans.
There are some pretty dumb humans out there
From perplexity.ai
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) differ fundamentally in scope and capability. AI, often referred to as narrow or weak AI, is designed to perform specific tasks using pre-programmed rules and algorithms within a defined context[1][3]. Examples include self-driving cars and virtual assistants, which excel in their respective domains but lack the ability to generalize beyond their programming[1][5]. In contrast, AGI is a theoretical concept representing a form of AI with human-like cognitive abilities, capable of understanding, learning, and applying knowledge across diverse fields without human intervention[2][4]. While AI is currently in practical use, AGI remains a research goal aimed at achieving machines with autonomous problem-solving capabilities akin to human intelligence[3][6].

Using AI to define AI, nice
AGI basically has the ability to perform any intellectual task that a human being can. Unlike current AI systems, which are typically narrow and designed for specific tasks, AGI possesses a more generalized form of intelligence.
This is a good explanation
You don't know how to use Google?
Be nice!
Generally speaking, a lot of the terms are used interchangeably. I would just say to look into the context of whatever is around when you aren’t understanding what it means. There really are a lot of terms right now, and many of which are just being thrown around as buzz words too.
AGI is definitely a buzzword that has too many meetings
AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) is a more advanced form of AI capable of understanding, learning, and performing any intellectual task a human can.
How do we ensure that it doesn't become evil?
