Spoke to Upper Mngmnt about an entry level mortgage position I want (took initiative making to time to do it’s training course on my own around my main responsibilities in my current role).

Zoom call went great, we exchanged professional backgrounds (him mortgages, me real estate), discussed roles and said he sees me as self-motivated and will let me know when an (internal) hiring is coming up.

2 weeks later to my follow up emails are unanswered and think he may have shifted roles. What now?😵‍💫

I like your innitiative. I’ve been in mortgage industry for 20 years. It’s all a gut feeling w hiring managers. This online bs does exactly zero. I’ve hired 1000 people, some great, some poor. Technology is only a tool. It comes down to experience, performance . Every day.

Thank you, that means a lot to me and I value you your insight. I have to stand out and coming from flipping houses solo before, during and after but after the pandemic—it’s made me to where I’m all grit and hustle.

Waiting for something to come can be an unknown. The shifting roles are what would have me more concerned. Maybe give them some more time on the follow-up emails, and hopefully, they can let you know what's going on, and if they did move, they can possibly put you in touch with somebody else. Making a good impression on the VP is never a bad thing.

Thank you! Understood and Agreed!

I’m assuming that this was a preemptive conversation based on what I read. It’s likely that they don’t have an open role right now., and when one is available, they will reach out to you.

When you say “he may have shifted roles” do you mean that they took another job, or are no longer in the position to serve as a hiring manager? If so, then I would circle back around to see who I could have the next best conversation with…

Sorry for such a late reply but yes, it was preemptive and under the impression that he’s moved to a different role in his position however he’s still there in the Teams chat. Since I’ve made this post, I’ve reached out to the Talent Acqui Manager to not only keep that “toe in the door” via shadowing opportunities but to see if I can’t get a feel for what’s going on—I come from a section of the company that very rarely do people make transitions out of so I’m networking as hard as possible.
