Starting a job on June 8th and would like a week off in between jobs. So need to give notice today or tomorrow, but we’re not in the office today. It’s a small firm and I’ve been here for years so I wanted to do it in person and was going to wait to give notice tomorrow but now I’m thinking I should do it today by phone? What do you think?

Always in person

Literally had the same exact situation lol I ended up doing it via phone/email and then making in person rounds when we were back in

In person. Eat the day of your week off if you need to. Don’t burn a bridge on your way out.

In person always (if possible)

Any reason you can’t request to push back start date by a week? (I’d go for closer to two weeks anyway. One week is really not enough.)

like

Just do it by phone. I gave my notice the day before New Year’s Eve when no one was in. Ignore the boomers saying “always in person” take the time off, you deserve it.

We have motion sensor lights in my office and the sensor is far from my desk. Consequently, if I'm on a long WebEx, the lights go out and it's embarrassing. The building won't change the sensor. Anyone find a solution for this (aside from standing up and moving, which would be very awkward)? I can't rearrange my office.

I am a new (lateral) associate at a small firm where everyone currently works from the office. When I started, I wasn’t told specific firm hours. I’ve tried to figure out when to come and go based upon when the partners arrive and leave, but their schedules are very inconsistent. The other associates don’t have helpful guidance for me. Assuming that if I ask the partners they’ll say to use my discretion, what are reasonable hours to keep?

I’m so bad at writing the background/ facts section for briefs… it always gets heavily edited and no one is giving me constructive feedback other than “advocate more”. In contrast, my legal argument section is generally without edits. For context, first defense lit job post appellate clerkship. Is this normal?? Any tips for getting better other than “advocating more”?

I'm a third year plaintiff's employment law attorney and I'm looking to move to defense, preferably still in employment law. I received an offer from a midsize firm that primarily focuses on PI with little-to-no employment law practice, so I'll have a bit of a learning curve. Offer is $90k, billable hours of 2100. Is this reasonable? I'm dead-set on leaving my current job, and this would be a $20k pay increase - which makes me believe I'm leaning towards taking it for those reasons only.
