Stupid and vulnerable question here. Been in this 7 years and I’ve constantly been told I’m some sort of all star and yes I’ve done quite well for myself. I’m not exaggerating either - constantly told I have a ton of potential. I know, cringe. But here’s the thing-I’ve worked mid tier and boutique but not big 5 or mbb. I haven’t passed interviews and have a hard time getting interviews at these places other than recruiters reaching out. Am I a failure if I never get in one of those places?

Does anyone have advice on transitioning from insurance to another industry? I am Vice President of a small commercial brokerage- basically I do everything except write the checks. A quick note about what I’ve experienced, in my decade long career, is the real advantage of MBB or FAANG - it gives you a shot at stretch roles that are outside your expertise. Not all the time or even most of the time compared to better candidates with specific experience for the role but gives you this wildcard shot at a vast array of opportunities.

Weirdest place you’ve taken a conference call?

For people in consulting - do you often read books about project management and motivation? Would appreciate your recommendations (preferably the ones with more than one thought for the whole brick of text 🤨).

How much weight does brand name consulting firms have on top MBA programs? For example, is it significantly better to work for MBB firms vs. big 4 vs. well known specialized boutique firms?

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.

How do you make the most of travel? I’ve been targeting The Who’s who in the restaurant world but I’ve been packing on the pounds! Other ideas? Or just suck it up and realize it’s all just work?

Does working in FAANG really open up that many opportunities?

About rolling off my project with no new project opportunity yet. I’m already getting anxious and can’t have a full night rest with the worry of not finding a project soon and eventually getting laid off. Although I tend to stress-out easily but this type of anxiety is different. Are others feeling the same way?
