Does your firm not track this for you? We report our location (per diem withheld if we don’t), and the firm does it all for us - got sent W2 with multiple states. First - does the state you travel to have state income tax? If no then you’re fine. If so, seems complicated to calculate at this point. Could prob get away with it now but going forward would consider this in your tax prep
Sounds complacted AF I wouldn't do this unless you're sure you need to
Your firm should be tracking that. You would have multiple W2s in that case, one for each state that you worked in.
However there is a certain threshold only after which you get multiple w2s. So if you only recently started traveling, you may not fall in that bucket.
My recommendation is talk to someone more experienced or someone who has been travelling for a few years in your firm to confirm that your firm indeed gives multiple w2s when needed. Then , if you only have 1 W2 this year, just file taxes using that.
