Honestly, usually the brainstorm meeting is where we vet the ideas people have already come up with and then maybe also come up with new ones inspired by what we all brought in. It's never the first time we're all thinking of ideas
Brainstorms are for getting all the first thought / bad ideas out of the way
I have never once had a breakthrough in a hallway. Half my ideas come to me while cleaning, showering, on a treadmill. When my mind can wander. I do like a 1 on 1 brainstorm where you can quickly build off each other.
Walking meetings, random idea channels, or ten-minute solo doodles before group sessions create more spark than forced brainstorms ever did.
I understand what you mean. Best advice my mentor gave me: "you never know what connection might come up when talking about ideas. but nothing will come up if you don't do your homework."
I think it was Collins that said "No creative person I know has ever asked for a brainstorming session" I'm of the opinion that without doing some research and homework, "brainstorms" are largely not useful...not to be confused with the exchanging of ideas and discussions. Usually I'll do as much read up I can to get educated on a brief, researching and what not. Then on the next day, first thing in the morning or early afternoon I crank as many ideas as i can, whittle down to the few i think are interesting...and THEN I'm ready to get together with my partner or team to chat about what we got. Sometimes though, depending on your team of course, it does help to do some early chats. You know, get the bad ideas out first lol.

I hear you. Brainstorming sessions are too much pressure.
You are a needle in a haystack. Most people don’t have good ideas in a hallway. It’s usually just a movie trope.
Serendipity happens outside of the office. But def not in a forced brainstorm.
