The company I’m interviewing with has recently had a 4 day a week RTO mandate. I’m not down for that, and they say they are considering more traditional hybrid or remote for “exceptional” candidates. When do I bring up that I’m not down for 4 days but would be for 1-2? It would be honestly a horrific commute and it just isn’t feasible for me at this point with everything else I have going on.

Also keep in mind that these companies can change their policies at any time - for better or worse. So you could get the job and the arrangement you want and they can change it on you.

Don’t commit to a thing.

Maybe during the second interview with HR, ask about the exceptions and flexibility in an indirect way. Do the interview with the hiring manager. And if you hear back good news (tentative job offer for the final interview round) then bring up that you can only commute 1-2 days?

like

How bad is commute? I turned down a job with 1-2 days a week in office because commute was 2 hours each way between train/subway etc

It would be about 1 to 1.5 hours each way - all car. I’m down to do it once or twice a week. Flexible hours would be OK with them as long as I’m in “core hours” - I’d probably lean earlier or later to avoid traffic and make it closer to 1 hour.

Hello everyone! I am a Judicial Law Clerk, which I have been for a little over two years now. However, I’m planning on moving into the AML/Compliance realm. I have a background in finance, having been a Finance Disbursing Officer in the Army for 6 years with one deployment in that role. Additionally, I am currently a JAG attorney and studying for my CAMS, hoping to take that exam in the next month or two. Any advice or referrals for anyone I can talk to learn more about the field? Thanks! :)

I clerked right after law school and I’ve been working in BigLaw since (last 3 years). I’ve always thought career clerking for the right judge would be incredible and I may have the opportunity to do so in the next year. Has anyone gone from BL to career clerk? Interested to hear about others’ experiences and if anyone can advise where I’d likely come in on the JPS with 3 years experience and a year of prior federal clerkship service. Thanks!

I’m coming up empty on ideas for them to bridge the gap, but I’m also new to my compliance counsel role, so I would be overjoyed if anyone has suggestions.
