The concept of fast food and retail jobs hiring managers/ managers asking teens nowadays for a 40+ years of experience and high school diploma for a job that’s supposed to be FOR TEENS just to be at a cash register, or flipping patty’s… And don’t get me started with these grown old heads taking over fast food jobs that were meant for only TEENS, please make it make sense yall.

I’m sorry, but if fast food and retail are only for teens, why does anyone get food or shop between 7am and 3pm? You can’t tell me you’ve never needed to go to the grocery store or wanted lunch in the middle of the day - and if you did, you’d probably be pretty upset if they were all closed, yeah? Fast food wasn’t “meant for teens”. Experience isn’t required; it is a lot of peoples first job. But that doesn’t mean it can’t use experience, especially for elevated roles. It sounds like you’re frustrated at hiring standards, but don’t insult the job if you’re either hoping to get it or ever use the service.

That’s nothing to do with you being a teen. Adults and people very senior in their roles are getting ghosted. It IS unprofessional, for sure. You just have to not take it personally. The places you applied for might just need different hours than you can provide. Or they’re just rude. But it’s not everyone and it isn’t personal, even when it feels like it.

Two points:
First, fast food wasn't supposed to be for teens. That is an inaccurate assessment. Back in the day (way back) there were diners, which had short order cooks and those cooks were often older.
Second: The job market is harsh for everyone. Many people in corporate and gov't positions have been let go. Where are they supposed to get their jobs? Jobs aren't just for social order and hierarchy, they're for a means for food and shelter.
So maybe gain some perspective; ask what conditions led these older people to work in fast food instead of scapegoating them for a failing economy.

There is no way to make sense of it. People now take those jobs and keep them, when they were traditionally a job a kid would have for a brief period. So it makes it impossible in a lot of places for a teenager to get a chance, they just don't open up, or employers want people with experience.

To work at any fast food or retail jobs doesn’t require you to have 1 million years of experience, you could learn everything about working there in less than 1 week is what I’m saying I learned how to grill make food prepared food and use a cash register in less than 1 week. These people makes things harder for you to get hired it’s annoying

You don’t have to be a teen to work at fastfood. What ever gives me opportunity to get full time. I’m happy to work anywhere. I don’t wait for anyone’s hours. I’m not the type of person to wait for hours. As an adult. It’s like like when you lived with your parents you had a safety net to help support you and not really worry about anything. I’m the type of person to keep busy and proactive. Yes winter is really quiet. Which I am the kinda person that likes to do other things.

I'm glad people can order things online and get them the next day; but it makes my job harder because a lot of the people in my company don't see that we just don't have the infrastructure for that kind of operation, so they need to order it BEFORE they need it the next day

Once when I was waiting tables, I had a guy pay me cash. The change was 45 cents, which I didn't give back to him because like who wants that. He then asked where the change was, and when I explained that I didn't give back the loose change, he made a big stink about how dollars and cents matter and didn't leave me a tip. He was a republican staffer on capitol hill.

Hi how much does a florist get paid per hour? Thanks

Back when I was getting started in the food world, I worked flipping burgers at In-n-Out. A man came in and said the burgers he had gotten weren’t right. He dumped the food on the counter and then he started throwing them back behind the counter. We gave him a refund and then his demeanor completely changed. He was calmer and he told us to have a great day as he left us to clean up the mess he made.
