Toronto ad fish 🤠 I’ve spent most of my career working as a copywriter in London (6 years here, 2 years Toronto) and the market is pretty different here. I’m planning on moving back home but wondered….how do you find work in Toronto? Agencies barely post openings, is the recruiter scene strong? Is it mostly who you know?

While this is kind of true, I'll also say this: most folks who work in government also suffer from what's called the "Golden Handcuffs" syndrome, where despite the things they have/you mentioned, they are unhappy--and locked in for years, if not decades, *because* no other job offers those things. There's also a LOT of unqualified/incompetent people working those jobs who not only never get fired, but promoted. I've listened to enough friends complain to know this. Choose what makes you happy and balance it with something that pays/vice versa. Few, if any jobs, have both.
Then get a government job?
If you are happy that you will make that until you retire that is what you should do it sounds to me.
This sounds like an unhealthy amount of envy. Searching up your friends and family to see if they make more money than you and being annoyed by it instead of happy for them being financially secure is wild.
Oh no there’s no resentment of them or annoyed by them, hence the “hate this business”. But agree not a healthy level of envy when it causes me to doom scroll government job listings that are probably soul-sucking.
Rising Star
The sunshine list has the opposite effect on me. I make way more than everyone I know on it and my job is more fun. Win some more awards and get some big raises and you’ll have nothing to complain about.
