The design job market is chasing “unicorns”—designers who also edit video, run social media, animate, illustrate, and maybe fix the Wi-Fi too. But being good at everything isn’t the same as being great at one thing. Employers should prioritize needs over fantasy. Designers, lean into your strengths. One person can’t be a full agency. Let’s focus on collaboration, not burnout.

I had IVF process to get pregnant. During pre- embryo transfer we were told that girl embryo is being transferred. Currently I am 18 week pregnant. I had anatomy scan and we found out we are having a boy. Baby looked all healthy but due to gender discrepancy, We are asked to do additional testing and genetic disorder screening. I finished a third round interview, and HR contacted me that afternoon saying I had positive feedback across the board and they would contact me the next day regarding next steps. It’s been two days and they finally get back to me saying they haven’t been able to sync with the hiring manager but will keep me posted. Honestly I wish they would talk with the hiring manager and then let me know the decision instead of checking in. It’s messing with my emotions.

Just became an ACD. Im in a limbo. Half of the time im being treated as a Super Senior AD and the other half im being treated as a Almost CD. Then when im scoped over work that my CD and I oversee, some people are asking me how does my role differ from the CD’s, as they tend to look at me as an unnecessary layer for approvals. In a way, i do the job so well that i get asked to do more AD projs and guide more projs — but then: wtf does my CD do? They mostly just 👍🏻what i direct n approve

I am on 5 projects right now all due within the next week-3 weeks. I feel like I’m drowning and might quit if I reach a breaking point, what should I do? Only work on the projects worth a shit? Blow off first round check ins to work on stuff that’s due?

Shop with bad reputation that lacks PR and hardly enters awards but has a lot of book-worthy projects.

I have an associate's degree in graphic design and work designing wedding stationery. I've been at my company since 2016, and am now a design consultant - speaking to customers directly and creating custom artwork and designs for them. I know I'm underpaid (50k/year in the SF Bay Area) but I thought the benefits and stability were worth it. I'm now severely burnt out (most of my team is) and not sure which way to go, or how to grow. Any tips/advice?
