The first week I joined the firm, one of the senior associates left, and on her last day we spoke and I’ll never forget why she said…”some things just run their course”. I really didn’t understand what she meant in that moment because I was so excited to join the firm… now I’m 3.5 years in, I finally understand and truly feel what she meant. 🤯

That phrase about things running their course is an artfully discreet way of expressing disappointment or even a profound loss of meaningful purpose. And it's something that can affect a lot of us. Sometimes I'm reminded of an old Dylan lyric, "This place don't make sense to me no more..." Yeah, that's it.

I can see we’ve both been there and done that…

I didn’t get out in time.
I kept praying and trying to hang on.

I have a love for law … litigation specifically…
I ended up getting a stress illness because of it…
It brought me down 😞
and I’ve suffered with it the rest of my life…

It was because of this black blood of abuse & Tyranny/ discrimination …
that flows through the hierarchies from within.

And it literally… can kill you if you don’t flee for your life…
I have suffered with this illness, my entire life… most who get it don’t live as long as I have… because of it.
It is caused by mega stress inflicted upon you over and over again.

It came from those Attorneys who debase and demean you to feed their own
brand of arrogance…
From one who knows… 🙏🏻
JUST THE TRUTH 🤝

I know exactly what she meant …
it’s so sad in the larger firms.

The hierarchy tells the other attorneys to accept the Newbies…
And they’re nice in the beginning, but at the same time you can feel it …
if you’re aware…
that you’re looked down.

After the honeymoon passes …
for those who don’t fit into their square hole of their consciousness.

Begin to feel the pins and needles and then eventually the nails through the hands & the feet…

For your own health & survival…
even if you worked hard as hell to be a partner… and accepted… you become hopefully…
Smart enough to leave & save yourself ‼️

I still remember my first day in Biglaw, sitting in my interior office and thinking to myself, "This is the best job ever. I can't imagine why anyone would ever leave."

funny

It's good career for financial stability, but boy oh boy, it does ask a lot of you in return. I'm running out of willingness to continue sacrificing my health and quality time with my family. Though I'm getting very close to accomplishing the goals I set for myself, so just have to keep plugging away for the rest of this year.

They keep giving excuses of pandemic/resource crunch etc. They hadn’t paid the govt TDS for many years so now all the new revenue is going to pay that. Any suggestions on who to reach out?

Hello! I’m based in NYC and looking for my next role. I work in the digital strategy/brand strategy space. I have experience across multiple industries (tech/telecom/Pharma (dermatology)/beauty and skin care and I am looking for a Director or VP role (my last job was a VP). I would like to keep my base of at least $180k (is this reasonable if I look for Director positions too?) Would love to land something soon before we hit the holiday season. Do you think what I am looking for is reasonable?

Mid-level associate at a mid-size regional insurance defense firm practicing coverage litigation. Salary is capped b/c my firm only does I.D./coverage and has no direct-hire comm clients. Second round of interviews with a comm lit boutique where I would be the only associate with 5 partners. Other than partner track, salary/benefits, and switching from coverage to general comm lit, what qualities of the move should I be thinking about as I weigh my options? I've never worked at another firm.

Anyone know when Ch. 7 BKs must close by? Is this changed by when there are adversary proceedings (alleged fraudulent transfers made to a bank for CC payments)? Asking for my friend who is unfortunately involved bc of his parents, who are the debtors (he isn’t a defendant or a debtor in this, but the payments were made to a CC in his name—a CC he didnt know was opened in his name).

Its in Texas, and the initial BK filing was made about 23 months ago. TIA!

I have a partner that calls me multiple times a day to talk about updates on our cases. Sometimes just to ask “anything to update me on?” He’s known across all of the associates for doing this. Most of the calls repeat information I’ve already provided in emails to him or the client. I normally bill this time as “strategize on” or “consider XYZ in further of” and it keeps getting appealed. Any advice?

I'm a third year plaintiff's employment law attorney and I'm looking to move to defense, preferably still in employment law. I received an offer from a midsize firm that primarily focuses on PI with little-to-no employment law practice, so I'll have a bit of a learning curve. Offer is $90k, billable hours of 2100. Is this reasonable? I'm dead-set on leaving my current job, and this would be a $20k pay increase - which makes me believe I'm leaning towards taking it for those reasons only.
