When I've interviewed people in the past, especially interns, what I'm looking for is the student that shows they're interested in the field. Not just someone that has a degree. Someone that has been involved in clubs related to the field, internships, etc. It doesn't have to be top tier, but you'll get a lot further with longstanding interest compared to a grad who only waited tables or partied their way through school.
