The most exhausting part of some jobs isn’t the work, it’s the emotional regulation required to survive the culture. When did you realize you were managing people’s moods more than your role?

I would say this is usually the case for me, to be honest. Rarely is the work the issue, it's always the culture and the people. I could handle the work, I can't handle the toxicity.

Very much agree

Yes, that’s correct

That's such a good point. I've been in positions where the work itself may not have been exciting, but it was pleasant enough. Dealing with some of the personalities on the job was the real challenge. Emotional regulation is a good term for it, you have to be so careful at times.

Absolutely! It's exhausting how much just making sure the team survives the day it's part of the job

I have billed 4+ hours today helping a partner prepare a 10 slide PowerPoint for a board meeting tomorrow. Let’s say half of the time was fixing spacing and formatting. I really don’t care as I am billing all of it, but am I wrong in thinking this is unjustifiably too common and a waste of time?

My neighbor is a bit creepy/lonely (?). He comes over to chat when I’m outside working on the house or doing yard work and doesn’t catch on too well to social cues. Anyone else have any odd or awk neighbor experiences? How do you dealllll when you just don’t want to interact?
