🤔The STAR method, outdated or still the standard?

Crazy outdated. You can learn more about a person by just having a conversation then you can by asking “tell me about a time when…” when the interviewee probably just makes up the scenario anyway.

I totally agree! I wish we would move away from this and just get to know the person.

Definitely limited ability. The only thing it shows is that you can do as your told

It's sadly standard... and excuse my language but it's a huge pile of bull shit. I have watched great people get passed over because of it. I have worked with people who have passed the interview and lasted maybe a month or so in the position.

Seems some companies are adopting a form of Star SBO or SBOI which is similar to Star. Situation, behavior, outcome, impact

like

That's good to know. My company is moving to evaluating impact for our goals this year.

Regardless of my personal feelings, STAR is the standard. It’s all I’ve ever had in interviews, so I feel like I’d struggle doing anything else, to be honest.

It is still pretty common and used quite a bit with different carriers.

It is outdated although some companies still use it along with behavioral interviews.

Hello! I’m based in NYC and looking for my next role. I work in the digital strategy/brand strategy space. I have experience across multiple industries (tech/telecom/Pharma (dermatology)/beauty and skin care and I am looking for a Director or VP role (my last job was a VP). I would like to keep my base of at least $180k (is this reasonable if I look for Director positions too?) Would love to land something soon before we hit the holiday season. Do you think what I am looking for is reasonable?

The VP calls me to tell me I didn’t get position however he wants me to re apply in new year that something else will be open, and that he wanted to keep a copy of my resume what does this mean ? Should I apply again in new year or don’t bother ?

I've done so well in this new role within the company that they are hiring another person to assist with what I do. I've voiced to my boss that I'd like to manage this department and they indicated that this is the thought for the future. Now they are asking me to train this person while I have my plate full. Is it wrong for me to expect either a promotion or to be paid to train this person?

I found a company I was really excited about working at. I applied for the job and went through 5 rounds of interviews. At the end they said I was OVER qualified and they want me for a different position higher up in the company. I was super excited they then had me go through 5 more rounds, 3/5 people were the same. The interviews mostly went "didn't you get the job, I highly recommend you? I'll just put you down as a 10". After those were done they told me I was UNDER qualified. Can't win!

Hi all! Is anyone here in Underwriting? Just want some thoughts on this as i’ve recently gotten an offer for an Underwriting Associate position and have never done any salary negotiations before. Does it seem unrealistic for my counter offer to be 12k more than the original offer? Considering that the original offer is roughly 8k less than the market salary. Plus i’m also accounting for wiggle room as i’m not expecting them to actually agree with the full 12k counter offer
