A question on Trump? Where is our friend from CS at???
^Analyst1, you're right the cost is subjective, which is why the $27B-$40B range isn't out of question. Trump's flip flopped between having "fences" in certain parts and not in others. Average gets affected by these assumptions.
BTW, Paul Ryan had previously voted NO for ~$9B hurricane Sandy relief, but they're okay with the$8-$15B range for a fucking wall with no net positive gain
1. Cite your source.
2. Wtf Sandy? I... how do people so stupid make it into this industry. Wtf does Sandy have to do with border security?
3. We already spend $13.5bn on CBP p.a. $15bn on capex over the next 5-10 years is not unreasonable. Besides, a VAT-like tax of 20% would reportedly bring in ~$120bn p.a. in aggregate according to Bloomberg. Could easily see a portion of that going to pay for the wall.
Going forward, AVP, try quoting facts, not your dumbass opinion.
False. People (like you and Donnie) need to stop spreading fake news/facts.
There has been no concrete plan put forward on the specifications of the wall, so imo it's actual cost is highly subjective. CNBC estimates ~$16mm/mile for a total cost of $15-$25bn.
Meanwhile our infrastructure is third world-like
can i have those wall comps on my desk by 5pm, hand spread
*its fml
I'm not commenting on whether I t's reasonable or not; I'm just calling bullshit on OP.
Analyst 1 - You're a credit to your generation. Obviously you didn't fall for the indoctrination at your undergrad. Bravo and well done!
How much does the Canadian wall cost?
Frickin sick of double denim, Nickelback, acceptance and tolerance
VAT....like they have in Europe? Weird. I thought a vote for Mr. T was a vote to be better than those "crap / socialist / struggling" economies. Obama imported universal healthcare. And now the Don will import a huge indirect tax on spending.
Can't have an unsecured border. Note that a heroin epidemic is real. That junk doesn't get into the states via FedEx. T will likely build it under budget and ahead of schedule. Sort of like that skating rink.
Yes, the wall will keep the drugs out. I feel safer already.
You'd rather the supply keeps on coming in as it does today? First year of drop in white male life expectancy due to the opioids epidemic.
Ask the Israelis how well their wall as worked out? And since you evidently believe in open borders, note that I'll be coming by your apartment tonight and will be checking what you've got in the fridge. That might be flip, but it does point out your hypocrisy.
May be worth addressing the addiction problems in the US. As long as they're in demand, the drugs will find a way in. I probably should be fearful of you coming by. That sounds like a Trump policy.
Analyst 1 - you appear to be an expert Bloomberg News reader but seem to lack critical thinking skills. Perhaps you will learn those once you graduate from updating PPT slides. We can argue about the true cost of the wall all we want but the ultimate question is whether it has any economic benefit given the opportunity to cost of the capital and labor. The net migration over the border is near zero today and most illegals tend to fly in and overstay their visas. Secondly, the VAT that is meant to subsidize the wall will clearly be paid by US consumers. Many of the products exported to the US have inelastic demand so we will keep buying them even if they are 20% more expensive.
I wish it were a trump policy - but just a point to illustrate your hypocrisy. As to drugs over the open border, if we assume there is no solution, let's just put heroin shots in the Barclays cafe. Your logic - rather lack thereof - is that it's unstoppable no matter what we do. I'm sure you're consistent and apply that thinking to the second amendment as well.
The wall is more than an economic issue, so that doesn't itself need to be said in order to justify it. It is also a lawlessness issue, a sovereignty issue and a security issue. Mexico could have put a stop to the drugs and the illegal crossings. They violated our sovereignty. If it were the other way around, I'm sure the Obama apologist tour would have included reparations payments.
