Easier to get the initial interview yes. That’s because most big firms/institutions have target schools where they focus their hiring efforts
I once was told by an MBB consulting firm that my MBA and work experience wasn’t from a good enough school, meanwhile they hired an Art History major from Harvard for the same team lol
Yes, that’s true… the reason behind it is hiring managers attended that school or know someone who attended… if the school has brand recognition and they have employees that attended that university, they know what kind of person you are and the education that you received should mirror the performance of other employees that attended…
But some companies only hire from the big 4… in finance, that’s Harvard Business, Wharton (Penn), Stern (MIT), or Ross (Michigan)…
Or, the big school is a proxy for other things (drive, intelligence, rich parents, etc.) which are valuable to the firm. The best legal department I ever worked for was made up of people who graduated from T14 law schools. I know it’s anecdotal but it is true.
