Part-3:Sheetal found tremendous potential in this one guy among all others in Vedik's disasterous project. This man named 'Chumesh' was hired mid project as a PMO. The only work this guy does is to poke his nose in important meetings without a clue about what exactly is happening and sell rotten mangoes to the colleagues. Now by doing nothing and cleverly stealing the credit for the work others are doing, he received appreciation from Sheetal just because he can wag his tail in front of the leaders and look busy all day. He's receiving appreciation messages and awards from leaders these days.
Part 2 -
Her favourite was an Executive Director — let’s call him Vedik.
Vedik had an incredible ability to survive disasters that would normally end careers. Projects delayed, clients annoyed, teams frustrated — somehow none of it mattered because he had mastered the sacred corporate art of enthusiastic agreement.
Then came a major project mess-up under Vedik’s watch. Most people assumed accountability would finally show up. Instead, promotion discussions began.
Soon enough, increments became tighter, promotions became “budget dependent,” and everyone lower in the hierarchy was asked to show more “ownership” and “alignment.” Funny coincidence.
Meanwhile, Vedik continued being projected as the ideal example of leadership potential.
That’s when the team realised — in some corporate ecosystems, competence may be appreciated… but chemistry with the boss is apparently billable.
Note- All characters in this story are purely imaginary. Any resemblance to real people, living or surviving appraisal cycles, is entirely coincidental.
I think I know the real characters, very cleverly used the similar names :D
