I worked in a store where we'd have regular oddball visitors like that. I realized that some people, for whatever reason, don't have a lot to do and they're bored, so wandering around a store or a shopping center can fill up their day. And then there are others who seem to be taking direction from the voices in their head, those can seem a little scary at times.

Oof, I’ve seen both kinds too. You never really know what kind of shift you’re walking into.
That's so funny, I wonder what was going on there. Maybe he just liked being around other people? We had somebody who came in every single day at 4 PM to use one of our demo handwashing stations. It was like clockwork, you knew it was 4 PM because he was coming in to quietly, politely wash his hands and then leave. He never bought anything, he smiled politely at anyone who tried to engage him, but all he did was wash his hands and go. I wonder if he worked nearby or something, but it was a mystery until I eventually quit.

That’s actually kind of wholesome in a weird way 😂 Like a mysterious little ritual. You start to expect them and lowkey worry when they don’t show up one day!
So many regulars. So many.
One I used to talk about regularly, but haven't thought about in years was this guy would come in, buy two ice cream sandwiches, eat one, talk to me about product we sold whilst eating, then take the second one out of the freezer, and leave. Never anything else. Always just two ice cream sandwiches.

It really did become part of my day.

You reminded me of a guy I used to see 3-4 times a day in the store. He would buy one item each time and always paid with small bills. He was quiet, and I never saw him take anything without paying.

Haha, sounds like a quirky regular!
