I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?

What are they gonna do, double not hire you?
Nobody got time for that

Cold emails pay my bills. Absolutely do it. But don’t mention your past/failed efforts to get the job. Pitch yourself like it’s the first time. Good luck.
Hey peeps, I did it - cold emailed the hiring manager and her manager with a nice message and short/fun deck about me.
Thanks for the encouragement from all of you. It was needed.
This company is not an advertising agency. It’s a major insurance brand. So I’m aware the culture for these things are different, but the hiring manager is a former ad person…

why wouldn’t you?

I would reach out to the hiring manager on LinkedIn instead. Cold email may feel intrusive since you had to figure out the email address but anyone can find a LinkedIn profile easily. Your own profile will also show them that you’re a real person with real experience
Appreciate the additional perspective and the thoughtful way you wrote your message. I definitely respect the hustle and this job market seems awful from an outside perspective, I can’t imagine being in it right now. Really wishing you good luck! I should have provided more context on the lens I was speaking from as well. I am in-house in a very corporate environment at a large Pharma company so might not even be the type of company you’re applying for! At a minimum we’re told not to click links or attachments from unknown contacts but an intro email would be receptive yes; but on top of that I know people look for any type of connection like even being an alumni of the same company or university if not connected via a person who works there would help. But agree with your last message, definitely go for it in this market! You miss 100% of the shots you dont take
Ok, thinking strategy… could be a coin flip, unless you razzle dazzle them, which you very well might; I don’t know your thunder
Random plan B: Aim for HR/recruiting. Impress and make friends with them.
Random plan c: do the same with a mid-junior level person at the company. There might be a recruitment bonus, good independent motivator for putting your resume in the right hands.
Plan D: Plan A, but make sure you showcase your razzle
Go get’em young thunder. But also remember they need to feel comfortable enough to click the link without reporting phishing. It’s your first CTA your writing. Get that click
I’d say it’s low probability but at this pint what do you have to lose?
