Is community management a stressful job?
Do we really have lay offs happening in zs ?
I’ve put myself up for L4 promo this cycle. Assuming I get it, what would be the best next steps to optimize for long-term growth/TC?
My understanding is that L5->L6 is extremely painful at Google. It may be easier to leave for a handful of years and gain managerial experience before returning.
L4->L5 is less challenging; however, I’m under the impression I can do this quicker at another company (if I leave after being freshly promo’d) AND get higher TC.

You never get to hear about the fires and issues before accepting that job. This can be a great opportunity to turn it around and show your achievements in it.
Both can be true. You were bait and switched, and descriptions rarely capture everything a job entails. I've learned to take them with a big grain of salt.

First rule: the new guy is never getting the best store/position.
Second rule: If you do too well, you will become their fix-it person, You will go from problem store to problem store, trying to set things straight, like some retail Scott Bakula ;)
