Personally, I think their system is programmed to search words and phrases, kind of like the people using them.
I mean, if you’re sending a resume to the local TV station for a job doing weather- related graphics, it’s not like your resume will be reviewed by an HR pro who has those skills, too. The hiring manager has given them things to look for, i,e., specific words and phrases, same as they’ll program (well, type) into the “search parameters” of their online search tool.
It’s critically important to remember that the first person you communicate with when applying may not have even the most basic understanding of what the day-to-day duties consist of for EVERY job title given to them. (That’s not even a reasonable thing to expect!)
I also think, is also because you have more skills than what the position want, and the managers may worry you take their jobs later after they hire you. I had that issue from my previous company, after they find out I have AS and BS degrees, and they freak out and wrote me up 1 week later afterward.
