OK plot twist: what if I got a watch you all respect, but got it iced out?
I wouldn’t recommend buying anything based on anyone else’s thoughts. If the iced out Patek makes you happy, go for it, but it’ll take some chutzpah to pull it off. The reason it, and an iced out anything is frowned upon here is that it:
A) destroys the value of the watch
B) isn’t very classy (in Western culture)
C) and is meant to flaunt wealth (or perceived wealth), rather than appreciate the watch for the skill of the watchmaker and design of the company.

OP - Could you explain what the appeal is (for you) to ice out a watch? It seems most of us don’t get it.
if you want to go everywhere absolutely dripping (#goals), yes buy it - but make sure you also buy insurance
Depends on the city where you work. If you work in a flashy city (Miami, LA) then go for it. If you work in NY, maybe something a little subtler. But again, your personal taste is your personal taste. If you want it, buy it.
I think paying my student loans would be a much more fulfilling use of $40k for your soul. You would feel like you really helped someone have a chance at starting a family and maybe owning a home someday ;) Could still have $25k for a precious metal Rolex!
