yes, you're right. agencies have never made work that is extremely tone deaf.

I mean, “let’s market surveillance tech under the guise of finding lost pets while ICE rounds people up” is a new level of dumb.
It’s not that brand-side employees don’t recognize if something may cause a backlash, it’s that they’re afraid to tell leadership.
Companies reward kool-aid drinkers. Not those who could actually make a difference. Therefore it’s not worth the political risk of sticking their necks out.

And combine that with the Google nest privacy issue of them recording and retaining video even when the camera is disconnected and no subscription, ie the Nancy Guthrie footage…
Pro
They can’t protect Nancy Guthrie, but hey they found some lost dogs!
Ring "fiasco" is lowkey dumb as hell, people are like The camera I bought to watch and record things is actually watching and recording things???? 😱😱😱😱😱
We should just have closed circuit recording if we insist on this type of security. I for one, don’t have one, and think it sucks, that as I walk or run or bike around my neighborhood, law enforcement could retrace my steps. That’s gross and I didn’t consent to it. I know being in public makes me “recordable,” but without probable cause, why should my likeness ever be sent to law enforcement?
Honestly, when they said they were going to open people’s garages and leave packages in them, I haven’t been surprised since.
Having known people who have worked for Amazon, they rarely look up from their navels.
The responses here show exactly how this ad made it to air without anticipating the backlash. Agencies would rather believe their audiences are stupid and wrong than to acknowledge that an ad is unpopular for a reason.
Hopefully they’ll all move to the moon soon
Pro
They can’t make an ad about how they’re trying to protect actual people because then they would have to acknowledge that crime exists on national television. Which is I think is now illegal.
1MM people- at least get the numbers right. It makes a difference in the narrative
Privacy? Get over it. This is 2026. Put a registration mark after your name, and stop whining.
Ogilvy 1 And you obviously need to buy yourself a sense of humor.
Did someone at Amazon? Think about what Amazon is today. Who leads Amazon. This was the brief. Get people to turn their cameras back on. The part they failed on was they only found a few dogs in their analogy. The trumpers would have been fine if they found all of them. It’s also not stopping them for keeping all you info and stil selling it to the government.
