Another dumb silicon valley idea. It will be dead within a year.
It's a vending machine.
Next year's Juicero.
Was there this level of outrage when Uber puts immigrant cab drivers out of business? or silkroad took food out the mouth of corner drug dealers?
I think it's not that bad of an idea when you subtract the name/logo choice. Should have been branded and positioned better (other name) because some of the ideas within the article were actually solid (official partnerships with retailers)
It's a vending machine that spies on you and tries to put actual bodegas out of business...pretty awful imo
Why would name your company Bodega? Does that mean they're a jack of all trades, and master of none?
SP1 the issue with cabbies were inconsistency in pricing, lack of availability, at certain hours, Uber solved that. Bodegas/corner stores are a staple of my community. The thought of some gentrifier attempting to put them out of business is infuriating.
The name is stupid. It's like naming a fast food chain Peter Lugers.
I got halfway through an article on it after reading this thread and have one big question. If someone has to stock this thing, why not take a few extra steps and deliver it to the customer? That's the way things are going - speeding and optimizing home delivery. Not another mini warehouse. Also the founders are stupid for being overt about putting small stores out of biz.
Blah
But yeah it's definitely just a vending machine powered by an app!
I think the idea will take off the same way Uber and Netflix did. And I'm not being sarcastic
SP1, I think you make a good point. That said, don't you think you have a more personal connection to your local bodega, than a druggist or a cabbie? The bodega owner is a local business owner who you have a fairly regular, personal interaction with. The others, not so much.
if I have an app fueled vending machine that makes getting little things even easier, I'm all for it.
ddb 1 nor is it necessary. Home delivery.
