This year, I stopped saying yes to every staffing request and have been strategic about what matters I take on. I also managed to get off of a couple insanely disorganized teams. My hours are a bit lower by mid-year but still comfortably ahead of pace. My quality of life has improved immensely. I’m never going back to grinding nonstop for abusive clients on their sh itty matters ever again.

My firm’s IT (especially system saving and file locating function) is so bad 😐😞 and they keep doing updates no one asked them for just to mess with the stuff we already got a hang of without doing anything about the issues we actually need fixed. Anyone else in a similar boat? Do you bill the client for the time it takes to fix the IT issue (or IT inefficiency generally, like time taken to find a file in a convoluted system)? Or is that supposed to be our non-billable time?

I’m currently a third year in my small firm’s life sciences team. I’m not really stimulated by the work and although they say they have a lot of work, they’re not good at managing workload.
