I was on an M&A deal that was 1.5 years as the parties were also litigating against one another.

Deals - like close to a year (our typical timeframe in my industry is 3-4 weeks).
However it depends how you measure. I do finance so there’s definitely deals where I close the financing, then work on the syndication, then have occasional asset management work over the next 3 years, then work on a refinance of the same asset, then more syndication, then more asset management, then work on the payoff/release. So if you measure that way, it lasted 5+ years, but the active closing portion was only 1-2 months.
This deal I’m on just hit month 4 and still ongoing
Over a year for a client to review a patent application, which is really rare.
On the other hand an active patent family can go on for 10+ years
Large international corporate reorganizations (spin-offs, carve-outs). Some of them take 2+ years and you bill daily to them.
