Those of you who have been doing this for a long time, how do you stay positive about busy season? I’m 10 years in and can’t help but be extremely ornery and down by this point in busy season. There’s still 6 weeks to go too. 😑

I’m 15 years in, some seasons are definitely worse than others. Exercise, diet and sleep go a long way. Getting some sun light when you can helps too.

like

minimal effort to get by. thats all i do. havent worked more than 45 hrs during busy season since going with the minimal effort approach the past 2 years. bonus took a hit but im happier having saturdays and sundays to enjoy the outside.

Dude quit. You’ll prob make more money.

And how do you enjoy the non busy months when you see ur metrics starting to slip, I feel like it’s a constant pressure

like

It’s always a 12 month period that is considered, so you’ll get a hang of it. The issue is if you have FY clients and have additional busy seasons

Exercise 30 min a day, sleep 7-8 hours no matter what, and have a healthy diet. If you don't do these basics, your mental health will surely struggle.

I don’t want to say that it gets easier, but it gets easier to acclimate through it. The sunlight and keeping up basic care of yourself are some great things to really take into consideration. We had a couple nice weather days and it truly was life changing for a bit to get outside and feel warmish sunlight!

I quit after 10 years and now i make 3-4x

Quit for what? Do you regret staying so long? I’m at the 5 year mark and have hit a fork in the road career wise and am uncertain which route to take

I am trying to get into the tax season

HELP! When using other offers to negotiate salary, does the employer usually ask for proof of your other offers that you mentioned? I’m super new to this so I’m just curious.

Also, if they do ask to show proof, is that a red flag? Or is that pretty common? If so, I imagine I’d just block out the company name and stuff like that?

Curious what others think about this: a friend of mine has a couple of months of leave this fall to study for the CPA exam (they’ll be paid a reduced salary during their leave), but they mentioned they have no intention of studying for the exam, and instead plan to use that time to look for another job. This rubs me the wrong way, but wanted to hear what others think…

This track usually leads to director of revenue. Offer 2 - internal audit staff so SOX and compliance projects.

Just finishing my first week in as an audit intern and genuinely I have no idea what I'm doing or even a general idea of the audit process. The senior associate left the engagement last week so it's just me and an associate, and they don't have time to give me instruction.

Am I stupid or did the e-learns not prepare me for any of this? The training told me I'd be auditing cash but I haven't even touched a bank reconciliation.
