Everyone had their own journey. I’m happier because I was looking for a lot more wlb, so I went into industry and am getting better pay, with many more holidays and a more relaxed environment. My progression will be slower though, and long term I won’t make what my big4 peers do. I’m ok with that
What level did you leave? Senior to senior in industry?
B4 kicked me to the curb. With smaller firm now and much happier.
I left at the Director level and found a good industry role that pay was better. Then I have had some progression after with new roles, so felt like the experience kept me ahead of my industry peers

Left at the senior level. Wish I stayed a little longer to get the manager title.
I left for industry right before Senior, and came back two years later - no regrets. I love the “lifestyle” i.e. free food, nice client dinners etc., travel, and have a very good team around me (I work in IPO readiness/IT Audit but in Deal Advisory).
I think there’s a lot of BS around the Big 4 hype and all that, however I gotta say there’s a HUGE difference in working with people in industry from Big 4 than others. For all the drama and hardship we deal with, it’s one giant school and we’re all being trained the same way. So I personally have zero doubts as to hiring someone with several years of Big 4 experience whereas I would dig deeper with someone else 🤷🏻♂️
I have the completely opposite biases against big4 people. Dealt with enough of them in our cosourcing engagements.
You learn some valuable things at big 4 but don't need to stay forever if you don't want to. It also opens doors having b4 name on resume.
After spending five years at a Big 4 firm, I transitioned to a smaller company, and the difference has been remarkable. My quality of life has significantly improved, and I find the work with smaller clients much more meaningful. Additionally, the financial aspect has also improved. It's impressive to see how many talented individuals from Big 4 firms are now at smaller firms.
