Don't give in to pressure unless it's also what you want. Have kids when you are ready. His career should be affected too unless you agree together that you will do everything for the kids. He may not be able to travel as much for work, or work as late, because you both will have a child to care for. It should be a team effort, not one person. That said, having a career really pushed me to be more intentional with my time, less friend time, more family/partner time, and it drove me to seek out strategic promotions and job switches to overcome the costs of daycare. I'm the dad.
"I guess that's pretty selfish. However, it's not like having a baby will impact my husband's career in any way, so he has nothing to worry about." You're wrong on both counts here. 1) This isn't selfish of you. 2) It will very much affect your husband's career, assuming he's a good person and an involved parent. I'm the dad and having kids has absolutely impacted my career. I don't have the same amount of time or energy to devote to work as I did before. I don't really have any advice to give you other than to say if you want to have kids, don't wait for the perfect moment - it doesn't exist. You will never be 100% ready for it. You just have to take the plunge if it's something you want. And if it isn't, that's absolutely fine too.
I wouldn't say its impacted me much other than having an impact on how much I value work life balance now. I would much rather spend time with friends and family than hustle and grind. But life has gotten so much sweeter since starting a family.
