Lived here for 17 years now. If you can stand the hot summers, and the state level politics, the town itself is full of good people. Housing can be costly though, and if you have kids, you definitely need to pay attention to the zoned schools.
Sure let's say that
As a Texan, Austin has some nicer scenery than most other locations and a lot more activities throughout the year. Yet, it all depends on what you're looking for from the stay - long term or short term? This would influence the part of Austin you'd want to look at when moving - for instance, closer to night life would probably influence a place closer to downtown; whereas, a family life prospect would probably be the outskirts. Also, if you're not into most of the year being hot, then southern states in general might not be ideal for a longer stay. However, some people do split the year where they spend the hotter months traveling or living in cooler climates.
Moved here 3 years ago. Laid off in December.. Thinking about moving back to L.A. Miss the food, friends, and weather..
stop tailgating it was better before you got here
It will be much better if you leave
I miss both PA and NYC; it is too hot here. Everything is overrated and expensive in Austin. Here I realized that you can fight winter in PA but you gotta stay indoors during the summer here — cant fight it. People dont know how to drive. There is always roadwork on i35 and us290 west.
Plan it out carefully you don't want to up set the kids
