Porn on work phone - kosher?
McKinsey & Company Has any industry experienced candidates pivot to MBB Engagement Manager before? My roommate works at FAANG as Senior Analyst (Ops, 6+ YOE) and was approached by McKinsey & Company recruiter for an EM role. He hasn’t done consulting before. Would this be too much of a risk? His goal is to pivot to PE S&O eventually.

I don’t need to do anything special to make it “worth it”. The flexibility that comes with it is good enough
I actually work more hours as WFH than I do going into the office, which is a downside. I'm online oftentimes before 8:00am & rarely reemerge from my home office before 6:00pm. I must be a rarity based on many of these comments which makes me fear is the perception, and why more companies will do a RTO. The perks are that I save a ton of money not needing gas every week or eating lunches out, I can elude coworkers who would otherwise be at my desk wanting to chat, no longer needing to dress professional head to toe, and being able to quickly retrieve Amazon deliveries so they're not sitting outside in plain sight (big perk around the holidays).
Same. I work longer hours too but the benefit of not having to commute an hour each way makes up for it.

make it worth it? its all worth it
Dropping and picking up kids from school, and able to balance both work and home if they are sick at home
Sammmmme! I hope employers don’t see this post and the responses and question if work from home is a smart choice for productivity😖 some of us need the work from home-it’s not a luxury it’s a necessity
It’s coming to the office that needs to prove itself worth it.
Sometimes I play video games during downtime and breaks. Also during lunch I’ll walking my dog and play with throughout the day. When I’m doing really tedious work I’ll put on tv in the background.
I try to take a 45-60 minute walk outdoors every day (unless weather is bad in which case I go to gym). Really helps me mentally to get some light exercise and be outdoors. Occasionally will replace the walk with some other form of exercise like hitting a bucket of balls at a driving range.
I’ll also grab lunch with friends or family members some days if schedules align.
And not really fun but I will use the opportunity of being at home to do light chores like laundry or meal prepping.
...not spending 1.5-2 hours of my life commuting round trip every day...
Same!
Taking conference calls while I have my EarPods in and walking 10,000 steps around a park. And driving my kindergartners to school and picking them up. And having lunch with my wife at a sushi bar if I want. And then being super productive wherever I gosh darn please the other waking hours of the day.
You are my idol.
Not commuting is enough. Then I work all day - just enjoying not commuting.
1) Doing laundry! Wash AND fold. 2) Actually eating lunch at a decent time. 3) Being able to pick up my kid from school and spend a few mins with her. 4) Taking her to gymnastics while on conference calls 5) Wearing pjs at work 6) Actually making it to the post office before it closes (I sell merch online as well). 7) Bring able to self manage my Airbnbs 8) Lunch dates 9, 10,11,12,14,15……… so many benefits including peace of mind.
Selling merch online doesn’t take much. Posting, packing, shipping. It’s not as busy as others but suits my needs. My airbnbs run themselves with my cleaning team and with automated messaging.
I’m still waiting for someone to explain why being in the office is important for us to deliver our work.
The property market took a hit during Covid, with companies moving to remote-only, leaving large office complexes empty. Firms who have decades-long leases on high priced properties can’t drop out, so now expect staff to return to the office, to justify their rental bill.
Also, a lot of investments are tied to office/property markets, meaning as buildings sit empty and their value decreases, so does the ROI. That’s the part no-one says out loud - RTO isn’t about the worker or improving their performance, it’s about protecting the investments made by firms and their leaders.
Fart.
Highly under-rated activity.
I'm glued to my desk from 830-530. If I'm lucky, I can fold laundry or clean a bit during an all hands but usually I'm multitasking on other work. The "fun" is being able to spend time with my family/stuff outside of work that otherwise would be spent commuting
It's a trap you break up your day but end up working more
I've got young kids so it's so fun to step out between calls for 5-10 min and play with them. It can also be absolutely miserable and unproductive when they are loud and fight though.
