TLDR - does YoE actually matter much in tech if your within a year or so but otherwise are a fit?
At 6 YoE - and through a weird fluke earlier in my career I ended up managing a large 30+ person dev team - I did a good job and frankly I loved it. Looking to exit consulting to a dev manager or TPM style role and for companies like Meta or Amazon a ton of jobs that I’m otherwise 100% qualified for want 7 years of experience. No formal tech training, and code literate but not a dev.

It’s a suggestion but typically you can get away with 1-3 years below.

I think you may be hard-pressed to get a dev manager job for FAANG or similar tier companies, dev managers in tech almost always have been devs themselves and you’ll need to code to pass a tech screen. TPM or product is certainly doable with your background though.

like

Thanks!

It’s usually a range. So like 6 is on lower range or candidates who will apply for this role. People with upto 10 YOE will prob apply for it

Shoot for TPM. I don't know any dev manager at engineering first orgs without heavy dev experience.

Sorry I don't know. I think that's be rare.

Amazon/Google/Meta won’t hire someone with your profile for SDM typically, but you should be able to get TPM roles. Yoe doesn’t matter

Thank you!

Hi guys,

I need genuine suggestions. I was holding offer from IBM and Wipro & now have got a good offer from a mid size organization.
I want to negotiate with IBM and Wipro & join any of these two.

Do these companies negotiate? When & how should I start negotiation with them ?

I would like to talk professionally so that they provide me a matching CTC or in case, they can't at least they don't block me for future openings.

Please suggest, if anyone can share their experiences.
