To avoid multiple follow ups (usually inevitable 🤪), what method do you use to get information/documents from clients to respond to written discovery?

Hi- I’m an hourly AA, been on the role for 6 months now and it’s my first AA job. I did not get a raise when I took the job because it was technically a demotion ( I was a team leader at a contact center). I assist two VPs and now they want to add a third because they’re looking for the “ 3:1 ratio “. Should I ask for a raise? Is this normal? I know another AA that handles 3+ people but idk if she’s hourly or salary. Any thoughts?

Do most firms start reporting years in September or January? Prior firm did an August year for counting hours and then another did January (both Amlaw 200). Looking at an Amlaw 100 to lateral in the fall (so trying to anticipate how much of the year I’ll have). I’ll ask what bonus/reporting year but just curious if most follow the same.

I work in energy in New Mexico and am just wondering if it's smarter to move to Dallas or Austin to practice. Family is tired of New Mexico and the wife wants a better community to live in so that's a factor too. Open to all opinions.

I have a deadline to respond to a Motion for SMJ in 1 1/2 weeks. I just found out that my grandparents who I haven’t seen since the start of the pandemic will visit this week. I want to spend as much time as possible with them but it will be hard with my response due. I work at a small firm with not that many workable templates so I usually have to do everything from scratch like drafting motions, pleadings, and researching all potential counts every time. Do bigger firms have better and more templates that allow you to have to do less research?

I often hear lawyers threatening to “call the judge” during a deposition, generally when there is a dispute among counsel over a question that has been asked. Has anyone ever actually done this? What exactly is the judge supposed to do, resolve the dispute over the phone?

FL peoples: I signed a lease for a new place to start May 1 as my current landlord sold the unit I'm in. Turns out, the buyer wants to keep renting the unit and asked if I want to stay. Of course I want to stay. My new lease hasn't started so I'm pretty sure I can easily back out. Does anyone work at a firm where legal assistants don't do legal assistant things? For example, I have to do my scheduling and calendaring. I have to upload documents to our file management system. This morning, a name partners assistant didn't realize the name partner had a depo and didn't confirm it. This is how this firm as been for decades and it's incredibly frustrating to work this way. It's so hard to not stress over this daily.
