Today, I congratulated a former colleague at my old agency for being named VP. They passed out those titles like Halloween candy. It gave you a bigger bump in salary, but there’s no power or new responsibility. Would you be ok with a ghost promotion that’s basically a nicer title so you can get more than a 3% increase? Or do you also want greater responsibilities too?

I accepted a job offer in April to start a few months from now, post clerkship. *Ohio* I stepped into a role as Software Engineer (.Net) with no experience at $70k. Six months ago I had brought up the fact I was being underpaid for the job I was doing with now 3 years of experience being the only Engineer on the team and my manager agreed giving me an increase to $90k.
