Should I transition to a tech sales job? Thoughts on risk vs reward? I am 34 yo, married with a baby incoming. I work at Google Cloud in solutions engineering (I help develop quantitative business cases with sales teams for customers). My cash base + bonus is $220k (going to ignore equity). I have an MBA from the University of Chicago, not that it matters much in sales. I have always been in a consulting role but I think I can make more in sales. Colleague has put in his resignation. They are offering him whatever he wants to stay including 4days a week work from home. He’s not bluffing and plans to leave. However, at this same time I was asked to begin working as a supervisor for the engineering team and I would get a promotion at the beginning of the year. I have been supervising and managing our team of 6 for months with no extra pay or bonuses. I was told yesterday that raises will be light this year. Yet today they spare nothing.

Currently I have offers from 2 companies (say A and B), A is paying more but I want to join B (B is paying less but better brand). Planning to ask B to match salary that A offers. Have 2 doubts:
1) Does companies actually verifies the pay that the competition is offering? (Dont want to ruin my offer with A if B doesn't match the salary)
2) Will it impact my job prospects at A if it gets to know I tried to match their offer from a competition?
