Took time off planning to leave law, but went back in-house to give it one more shot. Good bosses, good pay, short commute—but I’m experiencing the same feelings of unfulfillment and anxiety. Anyone else? Did it get better?

Yes and no, but I stopped seeking fulfillment from work. I also went in house for WLB and found that instead of wanting to be “happy” at work, that I would focus on my personal happiness and that as long as I had good, supportive coworkers and managers and was satisfied at work, I could focus on what actually brings me fulfillment: my family, my dog, my friends, hobbies, and volunteering.

Maybe not the answer you’re looking for, but it was what helped me. I’m a healthier, happier person and have so much bandwidth to spend time doing what actually makes me happy now that I don’t even have to think about work outside of my 9-5(ish).
ETA: I also thought about leaving law as I wouldn’t want to stop working. But decided to stay as I didn’t think any other field would make me happy and give me the $$ I want to afford the lifestyle I want. My plan is to build enough wealth to then slow down and maybe become a part time of counsel or whatever else I can do in less hours when I can. If I can’t, maybe I’ll think about pivoting again. But the switch wouldn’t justify the pay cut as I figured work just doesn’t fulfill me in any way.

I was about about to write something similar. I’ve been wanting out for a decade and finally got to my wits end and took sometime off. Now I’m working part time in a law firm, trying to make it just a job, and focusing on life. Hoping at some point I’ll find a path out to something more fulfilling but the golden handcuffs are real.

I don’t really have advice but I am also on the fence about leaving law. I am in house and switched to a different company which is a lot better but I still am constantly anxious and honestly find the job boring/unfulfilling. I’m afraid that I may find this in most jobs though and I don’t want to give up the pay and flexibility for a job that isn’t any better.

Yep! Feel that.

Any advice on how to move in house coming from insurance defense ? I’m not looking to go in-house for insurance carrier but also not opposed to it if it’s the only way to get my foot in the door at the start.

I first made the transition from ID to corporate (step down but they were willing to train), and then just got lucky from there with a recruiter reaching out on a local position. The first jump was back around 2021 which was a very employee friendly time in the job market.

There is life outside of corporate law. Elder law, guardianship work, foreclosure defense, immigration, family law. You may be fulfilled in one of those jobs.

What are your life goals? If your job a core component of them, or is it just a job?

If you are working hard at something you believe is important, but others (e.g., your boss, clients, customers) do not align with it, you will burn yourself out faster.

Make sure you align with the beliefs of every stakeholder of your work.

Curious what anyone thinks about cologne? Is it a turn on? I am not really into it.. but I just got a whiff of this dude at the gym and the cologne did something to me 🥰 It was really subtle. I tend to just like the way a man smells (not body odor but just natural scent) and don’t usually like it covered up, but wow this guy tonight 🥵 I might might buy some but i figured it would be gay to ask him “what are you wearing” because that prob isn’t something the bros at the gym do.

Hi Fishes,

Do these 2 points in the JD allude to modelling requirements?

• Prepare transaction specific and marketing materials (teasers, information memorandum, pitch books, corporate profiles, and industry data and analyses)
