Kamala - hopefully. And not even because she’s a black woman (ive been a booster of her for a while). But I also think that Biden, given his age and the shitshow he’s inheriting, should go further and name his whole cabinet. The idea being to show that there is a ‘government-in-waiting’ of professionals standing in the wings to come in and pick up the pieces in January. So here’s my line-up.
Design principles are:
1. A unity government. Trump was an aberration and a bipartisan effort is needed to bring a new serious, competence and moderation to governance. The crazies had their fun, now it’s time to let the adults clean up their mess. Split the Trump strain from mainstream Republicans by giving them positions in the Cabinet, and assist in the rehabilitation of the GOP
2. Acknowledge the socioeconomic upheaval being called for by the progressives; and put Warren and Bernie in key places (Treasury and HHS) to make change
- President: Biden
- Chief of Staff: Petey B (his consulting/note-taking skills will come in handy)
- VP: Harris
- State: I’m actually thinking a moderate Republican for the role, as Obama did with Gates (but there are far fewer now). Maybe Jon Huntsman (R) - Obama’s Ambassador to China. Or someone experienced like Susan Rice?
- AG: Cory Booker - JD, strong executive
- Treasury: Warren as I think we need a reformist economic agenda and she’s the most experienced.
- Labor: I might mix it up and give Warren a dual-role. The economy is about labor
- SecDef: I’d go with Gen. Stanley McCrystal. Solid guy. Seen shit. Bipartisan
- DHS: Janet Napolitano - she’s done it before under Obama and it needs rehumanizing
- CIA: Will Hurd (R) ex-CIA
- HHS: Bernie. I think meaningfully thinking about healthcare is a strategic imperative for us and Bernie is the best and most vocal at advocating for this
- HUD: anyone but Ben Carson?
I like so much of what you wrote! Completely agree on the design principles and the need to form the cabinet ahead of time. Show what a competent body he will put in place.
I am all in for Kamala for VP. I liked her from the beginning and want to see her in that role.
Love Pete B as chief of staff. Hadn’t thought of that before, but great fit.
I want Warren to stay in the Senate to be Senate majority leader. Wouldn’t that be glorious?? Think of the plans she would have and what she could accomplish with Pelosi! Wooo!
AG: Adam Schiff all the way
Oprah would be amazing
Harris or Whitmer
