[query] Is it a good idea to say a firm No due to medical reasons to a new night shift project I'm hired in?Accenture
I recently got a night shift project (2 days ago) that requires me to work from 10:30pm till 7:30am
I'm not comfortable with these timings and I'm thinking to ask my manager to put me on Bench (Due to medical reasons that involve mental health)
Is it a nice idea to say a firm No to a new project I'm hardlocked into, due to night shifts?

It is a salesperson job. You may not work over weekends but you still carry the sales job.
You will have no work life balance, period, you may have some flexibility but when there are proposals that need to be delivered or project with complicated schedules there is no limit on the hours you will work, it will be a huge change from a schedule perspective and also way more stressful. Brace yourself.
Thanks - really appreciate your response. I think sometimes people in consulting don’t realize how hard senior industry folks work. I have an extremely stressful high accountability role and often work after hours and on weekends when issues arise or around Board meetings.
No work life balance per se, but depending on the leverage you have under your - directors, senior managers etc., this can be a bit more helpful. My partner was working pretty much everyday on his euro vacay
See if you can talk to other leaders on the team and ask. Would have thought those conversations would be part of the process if coming in at partner but not too late. Would advise getting to know the team you’re joining as much as possible before saying yes. How you are able to work your peers and team will be a critical success factor
Thanks, yes! I’ve met the other partners in the practice and they’re all great. It’s been hard to really get an idea of schedule though. One woman said her industry job was more stressful and more hours.
OP how do you handle demands + stress? Do you like sales? I think you should try to level set the expectations they have on you coming in to the firm - how much $ will you be expected to deliver on? How large will they expect you to grow the team? Coming in at the partner level means there are expectations tied to it. Your industry of choice is typically performing well, but consulting as a whole is going through shifts. Do you like navigating this change?
Also definitely negotiate a signing bonus.
Yes totally agree - I have asked but need clearer answers. Will see what the contract says. What I’ve been told is that I’ll have a ramp up period and relaxed expectations while on the runway. One of the partners also said this particular firm is much better than the hours in terms of harsh targets. Thank you!

It’s also really important to know the role you will play in your practice. Are you leading it? Are you one of many partners? Your place and the expectations on you in terms of sales, people leadership, and deliver my should be very clear.
Thanks! I’d be one of 4 partners. They want to expand the practice into my area of expertise so it’s a build. I’ve got to build an offering and a team - which is kind of my thing. My understanding is they are a busy practice and this type of work is coming their way and they just don’t have an anchor for it.
sounds like you are headed to Deloitte
B4 would hire somebody with no consulting experience at the partner level?
I mean, when consultants have no actual experience in what they are paid mega bucks to consult on….. goes both ways lol.
How does one get recruited from industry to partner l. I've never seen a posting at the partner level on career sites. Assuming recruiter reaches out
