Just be smart. The rules of life still apply. 1. You shouldnt have to pay to audition, that isn't how it works. You may have to pay for headshots, something to wear there, to get your hair done etc, but you should not be paying them to show up and audition. 2. If the audition or gig is in a shady area, hosted at someone's home or apartment, or at a weird hour (weird meaning entertainment industry weird but still) take a friend, carpool, give out your location to friends or just don't go! 3. If you're starting to feel uncomfortable at any point during an audition or a gig, it's your responsibility to say something, stand up for yourself or leave. Don't be afraid of letting someone down or "ruining your career" and certainly don't let anyone threaten you with that. If you're feeling off, weird, uncomfortable or suspicious, leave and ask questions later. You got this, just be safe and smart.
Trust your gut. If something feels off, it is. What sites are you thinking of using?
I agree with that. I can usually spot out the ones that are fake.
I find its usually pretty easy to tell the scammy ones. I try to find gigs through my network or organizations I trust
Agreed, I think go for the ones that come up consistently when you research - those are the safer bets
Hello! I usually ask around with my colleagues oof from friends of friends. I am also skeptical when it comes to these sites online so I always check it with the people I trust.
Don't be scared because the more scammy ones are easily detectable. You can easily rat them out. But these are the common red flags: odd spellings or incorrect grammar, email addresses written out with parentheses or special characters, and offers to pay you in advance.
