Was just put on a PIP. Is this the end for me?

What level? They are desperate for managers and seniors so I have seen PIPs at that level recently that are not just creating a HR paper trail. They want people to get better and contribute because we need them. If you are below Senior or above manager/SM then it’s still possible to get off it and stay alive, but may be harder.

… what if people who are on PIP don’t get “better”? Just being let go then?

Depends on what the PIP says and what you do about it. If you make a good faith effort to improve, you could be fine. If you are put on a PIP and don't change whatever was marked as deficient, you have been warned.

like

Well maybe so, cause you have no follow through. You posted and never came back to respond and answer what is being asked. If that’s what you also do at work, you are doomed.

funny

Time for a honest self-assessment of your performance to date.

If you saw it coming or should have seen it coming, why did you let it go this far? More importantly, are you willing to go above and beyond in meeting the conditions of the PIP. Barely scraping by isn't going to cut it. Your odds of survival depend on demonstrating this isn't going to occur again in three months.

A PIP should not be a surprise, it should be the final warning of issues previously communicated. If you are truly surprised, either you don't understand the feedback offered to you, don't act upon it, or leadership sucks at giving feedback. Whatever the reason is, if the PIP is a surprise, you will not survive it. Move on.

EY?

What reason did your manager give for the PIP?

How do you get placed on PIP? Does this have to do with snapshot? Because I just joined few months ago and have 4 at level and 1 next level on my snapshot. Is this bad for SA1?

Maybe a dumb question, but what is PIP?

Performance improvement plan, a way to fire employees and covering the company for potential legal actions

No. It's not.

Might depend on your team. Are you supported or do you have a gut feeling that they are pushing you out? If it’s the latter, start applying externally right away.

You're getting there, but your employment is not over yet. Take responsibility for your performance, ask for feedback, and create a strategy with measurable objectives to advance. Don't be reluctant to ask for assistance from your peers. Recall to maintain a positive attitude and goal-oriented focus. You can finish the PIP and enhance your performance by cooperating with your supervisor.

Normally I’d say no. We’ve have people come back from PIP and do well. This year I assume PIP is just a holding place until we decide we need to cut headcount without “layoffs”.

Keep your head up. Kick ass on your new clients. Be a little nicer to everyone. You will be fine!

Yep.

I’m graduating in December, with a background in environmental economics and policy. Consulting didn’t work out this cycle. I want to recoup and try again, but I’m worried that once I’m out of undergrad the door will be closed to starting in consulting.

What can I do to make this happen? I have friends and connections at Bain and Kearney and the other firms as well, but not sure if it’s feasible now.
