Has anyone bought/ done the HRCI Certificate in Diversity and Inclusion in HR Management? I already have my PHR, but I’m looking to gain more knowledge/skills and beef up my resume. Is it worth doing? The course is $239 and you get 12 Recert credits with it.

Currently taking HR certification courses with Drexel and was planning to also do the pHR certification, but because I don’t have a degree in HR and I haven’t “formally” been working in HR, I don’t qualify, any suggestions on certifications that can help me develop my current office manager position into full HR?

If wanting to move up in the HR Realm, which would be the better certificate? PHR or SHRM?

Between Chicago and DC, which city would be better for raising kids? For context, I am an Asian man who is married. Here are the simple pros and cons that I thought of:

Chicago
Pros: lower cost of living; central location makes it convenient to fly out
Cons: not as many East Asians (!?) - perhaps there are other East Asian pockets here that I have not seen, but the suburbs here feel quite White

Pros: more Asian diversity; Nova has great public schools
Cons: higher cost of living

AOC, Biden, Ilhan, Hilary... I mean at try to be inclusive when speaking of diversity. You can’t name a single female in the Conservative party throughout history?

Does anyone have a recommendation for the best way to respond to "Well, how many people does this *really* affect?" from a stakeholder? This "Marketer" mindset needs to change, and I know my tone immediately changes for the worse when I hear this response. My most recent answer: "It doesn't matter; it only takes one person to file a claim." That was a knee-jerk reaction; I don't want to make it about the backstop the law provides. It's about inclusion informing better experiences for everyone.

What is the craziest thing someone has done to get a job at your company and it actually worked?

Our company usually does performance evaluations in June of each year. Our pay philosophy is not clear. We usually give a COLA in January each year, somewhere around 2% and if an employee performed well, they get above the 2%. I have suggested we change our process to have a clear pay philosophy with increases tied to performance, with goals tied to overall goals of the organization. What is your process? Are you doing performance evals during COVID?

I’m working at a new company and absolutely love it, my boss just hired a new person on our team that has no hr experience, no college background, they worked in IT so she thought it would be great to have her own IT person, now I’m struggling to make it through the day at work because of the language that the new person uses in conversations or the fact that he wears the same outfit all week long to work.
