"We can't afford to train you on that" immediately followed by "Why is this project not utilizing the 'thing I wasn't allowed to train on'?" Management logic is mind-boggling sometimes.

This is my personal opinion. I don’t wait for my employer to train me in what I need to know. I find and pay for my own resources when I need to learn anything new. If my employer reimbursed me, great. If not, then I have no obligation to my employer. This became evident with my bosses early on. It actually played to my favor. Whenever there is a new technology implemented, I am always selected to be the tester/evaluator.

When an organization is not adequately staffed, be sure increase the number of meetings to address how to allocate people. Forcing negotiations at multiple org levels around the same decisions will ensure everyone is totally aligned.

This accomplishes three things:
1) Everyone is mad at each other since they’re competing for people
2) They’re confused and not able to pay attention to the root issue of chronic under staffing
3) They’re distracted from blaming mgmt for the root cause.
