I wasn’t there and don’t know the situation, so I’m not saying this was the case, but sometimes things go on that you don’t know about. Say something extreme happened, and they talked privately to the manager after the fact. Now, no call no shows are serious, and it doesn’t take many to get fired where I’m at, but it’s just something to consider.
I think it's just a good reminder for us to not care that much. If nobody gets penalized for poor behavior, why go out of our way to try really hard? Maybe if you start doing the bare minimum, you'll get better shifts. That's kinda what management is teaching you, no?
As long as they treat me fairly, I honestly don't care how they deal with other employees. It doesn't affect me at all, so there's no sense wasting time thinking about it. Your manager must really love this employee. If I no call no showed, I'd be out of a job.
Managers always have favorites who can do no wrong. It's always been that way, and most of the time it's easy to figure out why that is. I mean, they may not show up for work, but they're showing up in their own way.

Honesty, I’d be pissed. But at the end of the day you have to look out for yourself so if the environment is toxic then definitely look to leave.
