Rising Star
Those are team members that are always tough to deal with, I think maybe if you need to comment on their words, flip it in a positive way so they can learn how to phrase things more positively if it’s an improvement plan. I think if it gets too out of hand, that’s when you need tell someone higher up
You could approach it in a friendly and helpful way, just point out that they shouldn't be so harsh in their comments. Some people really don't have much awareness of how their words can sting. If it's something where the person seems to be doing it deliberately, a manager might want to intercede and tell them to watch their tone.
A one-on-one with them could help clear it up. I like to think it’s ignorance over malice, and you addressing it will show that. I’d just point out how others are receiving their comments, and assume they aren’t meaning for it to come off that way.
