You could price a personal policy and see what that costs. Then see if the job is worth it. Or, more simply, quit and find another place to work. If you had health insurance and that is being taken away, sounds like the business is struggling. So don’t wait to turn the lights off, if that’s where it’s headed.
Are they offering any compensation adjustment to help with the costs of taking on healthcare on your own?
My answer is yes I would update my resume and start looking for a job while also looking for options for buying your own health insurance case it comes to that mostly because the job market is rough and you may not have a new job by the time you need health insurance, but your current employer doesn’t like a place you wanna stay at long-term
Agree with EY1. Healthcare is an essential benefit. If the company is slashing this, it's safe to assume it's not doing well and firings/layoffs are definitely on the table. I wouldn't immediately quit because I wouldn't want to go without a paycheck, but I would be spending all of my spare time applying to other jobs with the plan of accepting the first reasonable offer I got.
I say bad sign of what’s to come. Get out now before they cut your salary next.
That's a very bad sign. You should start looking for a better job right away. Given how things are, it could take a while. If a company is going to take away health coverage it means something is seriously wrong. And it would be smart to start to distance yourself from what may be an impending disaster.
Something about this sounds off…
They are waving a red flag and it's important to pay attention. It will take some time to find a new job in this market so I would start looking now, even if you aren't sure about leaving yet. My guess would be that this is the first cut, but definitely not the last.
